A major airline has cancelled all summer flights from a Scots airport due to the ongoing pandemic.
TUI UK have axed dozens of flights from Aberdeen International Airport until October, throwing holiday plans for travellers into chaos.
The travel operator said it is focusing on flying from the largest airports across the UK to destinations where quarantine air bridges are in place.
Trips with TUI to Majorca, Turkey, Corfu, Costa Dorada and Ibiza have all now been axed for the airport.
A TUI UK spokeswoman said: “In light of the unprecedented halt on worldwide travel, our teams have been busy reviewing and planning for travel post-Covid-19.
“We’re taking a dynamic approach to restarting our holidays, in line with government advice and the evolving demand for travel, focusing first on flying from our largest UK airports to destinations where we believe air bridge agreements will be in place.
“We’ve therefore had to make the incredibly difficult decision to cancel our summer flying programme from Aberdeen in 2020.
“However, we plan to resume flights from Aberdeen from October 4 2020 to ensure they are available in time for the half-term holidays.
“Throughout winter we’ll be running twice-weekly flights from Aberdeen to Tenerife and we will, of course, be welcoming Aberdeen back to our summer holiday programme in 2021, offering a fuller range of TUI destinations.”
Last week, Jet2 cancelled all flights from Scotland to Spain after the Scottish Government refused to add the holiday hotspot to the quarantine exemption list.
Flights from both Glasgow and Edinburgh Airport that were due to travel to mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands have been axed until July 25.
Flights to Portugal, Madeira and Cyprus were also pushed back until August 1 by Jet2.
