Travellers from Cyprus and Lithuania must quarantine on arrival in Scotland, it was announced today.
The measure has been implemented after a spike in coronavirus cases in the two countries.
Anyone arriving from 4am this Sunday, November 1, must self-isolate for 14 days.
Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said: “It is evident both in Scotland and in countries across the world that the virus continues to pose real risks to health and to life and we need to interrupt the rise in cases."
Both the rise in cases in Cyprus and Lithuania as well as the associated risk of importation into Scotland influenced the decision.
Yousaf added: “Imposing quarantine requirements on those arriving in the UK is our first defence in managing the risk of imported cases from communities with high risks of transmission.
"That is why we have made the decision to remove Cyprus and Lithuania from the country exemptions list.
“Whether or not an overseas destination has been designated for quarantine restrictions, our message remains clear that people should think very hard before committing to non-essential foreign travel.”
The UK Government also announced Cyprus and Lithuania have been removed from its safe travel list.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps tweeted: "We are removing Cyprus and Lithuania from the travel corridor list.
"From 4am Sunday 1st November, if you arrive into the UK from these destinations you will need to self-isolate."
He added: "We are not adding any countries to the list of travel corridors this week."
