Hole in the wall break-in at Liverpool Sainsbury's store

Massive damage was caused to a Sainsbury's store in south Liverpool during a suspected cash machine raid.

A police cordon was in place today at the Sainsbury's superstore in Woolton Village following an incident overnight off James Road.

Photographs shared with the Echo show a large hole in the wall of the supermarket next to the cash machine.

A large piece of plant hire machinery, which appears to have been used in the raid, was dumped in front of the local supermarket.

Local ward councillor Kris Brown tweeted: "A serious cash machine theft has taken place at the Sainsbury’s in Woolton Village today. Very organised and appears to have used heavy machinery in the operation. Police keeping us informed but if you have any information please report to @MerPolCC."

Police were at the scene this morning. The ECHO has approached the force for a comment.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
