Holders Australia fall to Canada in World Cup of Darts

Former champions Australia crashed out of the World Cup of Darts after suffering an emphatic defeat to Canada in Frankfurt.

Damon Heta, who won the title in 2022 alongside Simon Whitlock – an ever-present at this event before missing out this year– was alongside new partner Adam Leek.

They needed to come out on top in their second Group G clash following their last-leg loss to the United States.

But Jim Long and David Cameron produced in the pressure moments as the Canadian pair opened their account with a brilliant 4-1 victory to set up an intriguing battle against their North American rivals.

The Philippines bowed out of the competition despite a 4-1 victory against New Zealand, while Singapore and Lithuania will not progress even after their respective 4-2 successes against Gibraltar and Thailand.

Belgium bounced back from their shock defeat to Hong Kong to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Mike De Decker and Dimitri Van Den Bergh knew they needed a convincing win against Slovenia and they did just that with a 4-1 triumph.

However, their fate rests in the hands of Slovenian pair Stefano Bozicek and Benjamin Pratnemer, who must beat Hong Kong in their final Group B match for the Belgians to progress.

The second round of fixtures saw two more seeds exit as Spain beat Croatia in a final-leg thriller and Hungary whitewashed Finland to set up a winner-takes-all clash with Norway in their Group L decider.

Denmark dumped out India with a 4-1 victory, while Switzerland and South Africa also matched that same scoreline against Portugal and Mongolia, respectively.

Italy were 4-2 winners against debutants Trinidad and Tobago and France needed all seven legs to see off China.
