Hold up in Sunderland takeover ‘very odd’ says William Storey

William Storey has once again waded into the Sunderland takeover debate.

The Rich Energy drink founder was gracious in defeat after the Black Cats announced a deal had been agreed with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.

The club expected the deal to be given approval from the EFL last month, but the governing body has asked for Louis-Dreyfus backers to provide details of their funding for the next two seasons.

The deal is still expected to go through, with the hold up just a minor snag in proceedings.

Storey took to Twitter after reading the ChronicleLive story reporting on the hold up, saying it was: “Very odd”.

It’s a clear sign that the entrepreneur is keeping a close eye on proceedings at the Stadium of Light.

The 42-year-old has been very vocal throughout the entire takeover process, but had fallen quiet on that front after his takeover attempt failed.

He has remained interested in the club - tweeting about results on a number of occasions and even claims to be a supporter of the Black Cats.

On January 28, Storey tweeted: “I'm a huge supporter now. I respected decision in good faith in December. A couple of decent results pleasing but the transfer window closing soon!?!

"I'm concerned takeover still not ratified and where are signings and investment?”
