Charlie Condou leaves Holby City after Ben's kiss with Dom

Actor Charlie Condou has revealed that he has left Holby City.

This comes after the actor's character Ben Sherwood shocked fans by kissing Dom in the hospital drama.

Charlie was signed last September but has left the show just months later, he confirmed on Lorraine today.

Probed by host Lorraine Kelly whether he would be staying on the show long-term, he said: "I’m not - it’s just a stint. Just a little stint."

Despite that, he hinted that he could be returning in the future, saying: "The door was very much left open.

"I’ve had conversations with them, you never know, watch this space."

Viewers were left gobsmacked last week when Ben ended up kissing Dom, despite dating Dom's best friend Essy.

And this evening, Ben will leave Dom even more stunned after revealing his plans to propose to Essy after insisting the kiss was "no big detail.

Admitting the kiss was a shock to him, Charlie said: "I think so because Essy’s his best friend and now he knows Ben’s going to propose it makes it all the more awkward."

Charlie also admitted that filming Holby City had been much easier than Coronation Street for him as it was much closer to his home.

He said: "I loved my time at Coronation Street but being in Manchester was really difficult because my family were in London and i wasn’t getting to see them.

"Holby’s perfect because I can drop my kids off at school and be at Holby in 15 minutes."

Charlie starred as sonographer Marcus Dent in Coronation Street from 2007 until 2008 and then from 2011 to 2014.

The actor previously opened up to the Mirror about working as a waiter after work dried up following his exit from the soap - something he is not embarrassed about.

He said: "I had a few years of it being really good after I left Coronation Street and then it went a bit quiet for a few months so I got a job working in a restaurant.

“That’s what responsible adults do. I’ve got a young family and I’d much rather be bringing in money to take care of my kids and pay the bills than not."

*Holby City airs Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC One
