Holby City star calls for BBC soap's return after Neighbours is saved by Amazon

Davood Ghadami has called for the return of Holby City - just hours after Neighbours was rebooted.

The EastEnders actor - who also played Eli Ebrahimi on the axed BBC One show - has called for the show, which ended recently to much disappointment from fans, to make its return to screens after Amazon's Freevee picked up Neighbours.

Neighbours will return for a new series next year, just five months after the show was axed. Now, Davood has suggested Amazon could do the same with Holby City - and fans are thrilled by the idea.

Taking to Twitter, Davood wrote: "This is great news for @neighbours, I'm really very pleased for them! Worth mentioning that @BBCHolbyCity had higher viewing figures, hellooooo @AmazonFreevee."

Fans rushed to social media to agree with the soap star's proposition, as they lamented over the show ending.

"Just cannot believe they got rid of Holby at all, great viewing numbers, great cast, great storylines. But will fill channels with rubbish! I say bring back Holby," one shared, whilst another added: "Holby City should never have been axed. It was a brilliant series."

A third wrote: "This is good news but I agree that Holby City should return as well- so many of us with withdrawal symptoms!" whilst a fourth begged: "Pretty pretty pretty please @AmazonFreevee, it's not too late to bring it back."

Amazon confirmed today that Neighbours would be back for a special series next year, with some of the legendary cast returning to make the exciting announcement to their fans on social media.

Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney, and Jackie Woodburne will all return to reprise their leading roles.

Neighbours, also recently axed, has been saved by Amazon (freevee)

“Neighbours has captivated its audience for nearly 40 years, building a dedicated and loyal following for the lives and stories of the characters on Ramsay Street,” said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD original content and programming, Amazon Studios, "With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalogue of thousands of Neighbours episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favorite moments. We look forward to immersing the audience in new Ramsay Street experiences when we relaunch the show next year for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video customers."

Holby City was axed by the BBC last year after over two decades on screen, as the BBC told fans that the "tough decision" had come as a result of the BBC's commitment to make more programmes across the UK.
