Holby City cast break down in tears in behind-the-scenes clip on last day of filming

There were tears and hugs among Holby City's cast and crew on their final day on set.

Dedicated fans of the show were left utterly devastated last year when it was revealed that the BBC hospital drama would be coming to an end after 23 years.

And on Tuesday night, viewers were in tears as they watched the show's last ever episode, which saw its most iconic character Jac Naylor tragically die after surgery.

Yet it seems as though filming the scenes was just as emotional as the scenes themselves.

Sharing clips of filming behind the scenes, actor Bob Barrett - who plays Sascha Levy - can be heard saying: "Emotional scenes are always challenging, but these ones have been especially poignant to film, particularly as they involve the death of a long running character in the final episode.

"And it's been hard saying goodbye to each set, one by one."

Actors David Ames (Dominic Copeland) and Dawn Steele (Ange Godard) are then seen in full PPE as they reveal they've filmed their final scenes together.

David said: "That was our last performance and surgery as Ange Godard and Dominic Copeland as Holby City General."

Appearing upset, Dawn said: "Oh no! It feels so sad..."

The pair hugged and David continued: "It's quite emotional. There's been a lot of final moments, a lot of 'last time doing this, last time doing that'."

They then shared shots of clipboards, one of which had "farewell Keller" written on it.

A director is seen calling out to cast and crew as he says: "That's the last scene on AAU ward, ladies and gentlemen, so, I don't know..."

As they all clam, Bob continues: "Whilst our last day has been scheduled with as many cast as possible so we can all finish together, some have filmed their final scenes. And we have marked each one with applause, and some tears."

Actress Rosie Marcel, who plays Jac, is seen wiping away tears.

"It's difficult to put into words what Holby has meant to us, but we've given it a go," Bob says, as the cast describe their "unforgettable" and "magical" experience on set.

Fans took to comment, voicing their devastation over the ending of the show.

One tweeted: "I’m going to have to watch it again. Doesn’t feel real yet that that was the #HolbyCityFinale I feel sad and a bit numb. Like when you get bad news but don’t really process it."

While another commented: "Oh I am lost completely. Absolutely perfect last episode. I cried non stop it genuinely is a loss. Thank you to all involved for your dedication, commitment and heart. I’ve loved it. It meant something to me and now it’s gone."
