Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development. However, the company’s second-quarter shareholder letter from Aug. 6, 2026, gives no info about the its release date.
Warner Bros. said its pipeline includes “the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” while discussing their new games strategy. However, earlier this year, Warner Bros. signaled the sequel for 2027.
The sequel’s release details are still unknown
Despite the confirmation, Warner Bros. hasn’t revealed much about Hogwarts Legacy 2. There’s no official title, release window, platforms, or story details announced. At the time of writing, whether Avalanche Software will return as the developer also remains unclear.
The studio also hasn’t confirmed if the sequel will include multiplayer or online features, or any form of co-op gameplay. Fans may therefore have to wait much longer before the company even begins a proper marketing campaign.
The announcement is part of a wider plan to make games a more important part of Warner Bros.’s business. The company said they’re now focusing on four key franchises worth more than $1 billion each, with more disciplined investment in fewer and higher-conviction titles. Games have been described as an “important growth lever” for the division.
The first releases under this refocused approach include LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. Hogwarts Legacy became a major commercial success after its release in 2023, so a sequel is Warner Bros.’ safest choices to build a more profitable games lineup.
A bigger Harry Potter push is coming
The sequel will also arrive as Warner Bros. continues expanding the wider Harry Potter franchise. The new Harry Potter TV series is slated to premiere on HBO Max on Christmas Day later this year.
Warner Bros. believes the series will increase demand for its Harry Potter experiences and consumer products. It also highlighted a new Harry Potter Tour in Shanghai, scheduled to open next year, and Harry Potter Land in Abu Dhabi, planned for the coming years.
