Hogs and kisses: Ayrshire pig moves in with sister's ex with hopes of creating piglets

All we've heard about for the last 12 months is to keep our distance from others and to make sure our hands are clean.

But two Ayrshire pigs are being encouraged to do the complete opposite as they look to get down and dirty in the sty.

At Kilmarnock's Dean Castle and Country Park, Doris, a Gloucestershire Old Spot pig has shacked up with fellow hog, Campbell.

But in an incredible twist to the tail, Campbell fathered eight healthy piglets with Doris' sister, Dolly, at the park last year.

Rangers at the park have joked that there's no word on how octomum Dolly feels about her sister potentially linking up with her ex this year.

But now staff at the Dean Park are pinning their hopes on a linking of snouts leading to Campbell and Doris b-oinking.

And if the happy union is a success the park could be blessed with the pitter patter of tiny trotters later this summer.

A post from the Dean Castle and Country Park reads: "Doris gets her man!

"Post Valentine's Day and love is in the air.

"Doris, Dean Castle and Country Park's Gloucestershire Old Spot pig has moved in with Campbell.

"Last year her sister Dolly gave birth to eight healthy piglets so fingers crossed that romance blossoms again and we hear the sound of tiny trotters in May or June this year. Good luck Doris!

"Currently no word on what Dolly thinks about this!"

Last year's piglets could not be kept at the park over fears they could have interbred with each other, causing genetic issues.

The Gloucester Old Spots are categorised as a rare breed pigs, which means they aren’t used by many modern farms.

Dean Park rangers want farms and smallholders to carry on using the breed so they sell them on to farms where they might be used for other breeding programmes or for their meat.

The Old Spots have a reputation for producing really high quality bacon and pork, officials said.
