Hogmanay travellers face delays after man rescued from major Scots train route

Train travellers on Hogmanay faced disruption after a man had to be rescued from the line.

Bosses confirmed ScotRail services faced delays between Gretna Green and Annan following the incident.

Commuters were warned shortly before 11.30am on social media with transport cops later confirming the man had been led to safety.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Eastriggs at 10.29am today following concern for the welfare of a man.

"Officers attended and the man was taken to a place of safety."

Travellers were warned services between Dumfries and Carlisle may be cancelled or delayed.

The line has now reopened but ScotRail has warned that services may be delayed in the area.

A ScotRail statement read: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Gretna Green and Annan, services between Dumfries and Carlisle may be cancelled, delayed or revised."
