Hogmanay revellers won’t need to layer up tonight as Scotland is set to bask in “ridiculously warm” temperatures.
At midnight, it is forecast to be about 10C in some parts of the country.
Craig Snell, of the Met Office, said: “It will be ridiculously warm for the time of year. Anyone who leaves the house after midnight will encounter temperatures more akin to springtime.”
An area of low pressure over Ireland is dragging warm air up from the coast of Africa and could produce Scotland’s warmest New Year’s Day in history, with the mercury touching 15C during the day.
Experts believe the 14.5C January 1 record in 1992 may be broken in Dumfries and Galloway or the Lothians.
