Three lifebelts with throw ropes have been installed at Hogganfield Loch following a campaign from a grieving family who lost their son in a tragic accident.
Duncan and Margaret Spiers say they are “humbled” at the public support they have received and hope that families will be reassured by the move.
Christopher Spiers was just 28-years-old when he slipped on the banks of the River Clyde and drowned.
Speaking about the campaign’s success Duncan said: “We are proud now that lifebelts with ropes have been implemented at Hogganfield Loch.
“We are so humble that people are happy to have the lifebelts up there. It is great for Christopher’s Saving Lives campaign and raises awareness for it.
“The response from the public has been amazing. Families will be reassured by this move and glad to see these lifebelts installed at Hogganfield Loch.
“We have been sent messages to thank us for doing this. This is a great success for our campaign and we hope it reassures the public that the lifebelts are there and can help someone if the need arises.
“There are three for now and this will be reassessed by the council.”
