Hoffenheim break silence on Leeds United's rivals for Georginio Rutter signature

Georginio Rutter will not feature in Hoffenheim’s next match amid mounting interest from a number of clubs, the German club has confirmed. Rutter has been strongly linked with a move to Leeds United over the last few days, with the Whites reportedly in talks over a deal in the region of €30m.

The 20-year-old striker only penned a new deal with the German club last year, but he has caught the eye with his performances this season to establish himself as one of the brightest young talents in the Bundesliga. As such, it would certainly be seen as a statement of intent if the Whites were to successfully land him this month and make him their second signing after adding Max Wober to their squad earlier this week.

However, according to Hoffenheim director of football Alexander Rosen, there is more than one club interested in the forward. With questions about his future increasing, the decision has been taken to pull Rutter out of Hoffenheim training and the club have confirmed he will not play in their friendly against Servette on Monday.

“Georgi is confronted with a major issue that occupies him intensely,” Rosen said on the club website. “He's a very young man, so it's understandable that he's concerned about the current situation.

“From our side, this is about dealing with a young person responsibly and so we have decided that he should not train fully with the team at the moment.

“Obviously there has been tremendous interest in such a talented player not only since yesterday. You don't have to be an expert to know this.

“There is currently more than one club that is trying hard to get the player. Ultimately we have to decide what is best for TSG Hoffenheim under the given circumstances. But it is also important to include the thoughts of Georginio and those around him, because after all we are not talking about a piece of furniture here, but about the future of a young person.”
