Hobart grandmother and convicted killer Susan Neill-Fraser will spend a 12th Christmas behind bars after her murder appeal was pushed back until next year.

The 66-year-old is serving 23 years' jail for killing partner Bob Chappell on the couple's yacht moored off the Tasmanian capital on Australia Day 2009.

Neill-Fraser has maintained her innocence and has launched a second appeal against her conviction after convincing a judge there is "fresh and compelling" evidence in the case.

Her appeal was slated to be heard earlier this year but has continually been delayed due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

It was again adjourned on Wednesday by Supreme Court Justice Helen Wood, who has listed the matter to return to court in March.

Lawyers for Neill-Fraser are based in Western Australia and Victoria and have been unable to travel to Tasmania for much of the year.

Neill-Fraser claims there is new evidence that then-homeless teenager Meaghan Vass was aboard the yacht the night of the murder and Mr Chappell was attacked while Ms Vass was there.

Ms Vass, whose DNA was found on the boat, will be required to give evidence in person at the hearing.

Neill-Fraser's first appeal against her 2010 conviction was dismissed by the Court of Criminal Appeal in 2012.

She was found to have attacked Mr Chappell, used ropes and winches to lift his body onto the yacht's tender and dumped his body in deep water.

Mr Chappell's body has never been found.
