Hobart man appears in court on attempted murder charge

A 28-year-old man has appeared in an out-of-hours court session in Hobart charged with the attempted murder of a young father.

Caleb Woods, 24, was shot in the stomach at close range as he stood in the yard of his grandmother's Bridgewater home two weeks ago.

On Saturday, Tye Paul Silver appeared in the Magistrates Court charged with attempted murder and firearm offences.

Mr Silver, from Herdsman's Cove, was refused bail by justice of the peace Michael Stoddard and was remanded to appear in court on Monday.

Family and friends of Mr Silver were in the back of the court during the bail application.

He did not enter a plea to the charges.

At the time of the shooting, Mr Woods was visiting his grandmother.

It came after he had just celebrated birth of his new baby just weeks prior.
