Ho Wong restaurant sign is sitting in man's garden and he doesn't know what to do with it

How badly we'd love to tuck into a Ho Wong right now ...

It's not even been a year since the cult restaurant was forced to close its doors. Last June, owners announced the iconic Glasgow food spot would be serving up delicious Chinese meals for the very last time after 33 years of trading, as the city centre building made way for multi million pound offices on York Street.

But a certain part of Ho Wong still remains, the legendary sign, which beamed over thousands of hungry customers as they entered the restaurant salivating over what lay in store, across three decades.

And we discovered today the sign is simply sitting in a back garden in Cumbernauld, with its current owner wondering what on earth to do with it - and he's looking for your suggestions!

James Ridley contacted Glasgow Live earlier to explain how a long term family friendship with the restaurant owners led to the sign staring at him from the bottom of the garden as he looks out the window.

He said: "My dad Jim is friends with Tony and David who owned the restaurant. My dad went there for years and eventually became pals with them.

"When they were closing, my dad was helping with assets in and outwith the restaurant.

"He was asked if he wanted the sign and it is now in my garden - I'm not quite sure what to do with it!"

James admitted he had hoped to put together a rather unusual garden display, but was quickly met with opposition from his other half. He added: "I had an idea of getting it all connected up , but the wife is against it.

"The Ho Wong was a piece of history for our family, any big events or special occasions and we would be in the Ho Wong. The food was out of this world. I also have one of the menus as a souvenir."

And so now it's in the hands of you, the Glasgow Live readers, as to what James should do with it.

He said: "It just needs the bulbs and then connected, I think! It's part of Glasgow history."

Let's hear your best suggestions, Glasgow!
