HMV launches new personal shopping services as stores reopen

New personal shopping services are being launched by music retailer HMV as part of its approach to reopening stores next week.

More than 90 stores in England and Northern Ireland will reopen on Monday with the retailer introducing a raft of new measures in a bid to meet government guidelines on safe shopping.

'List and leave' will enable customers to drop off a list of the items they wish to purchase and a member of staff will pack them ready for collection.

'Ring and reserve', due to be introduced shortly after stores reopen, allows customers to call their local HMV to reserve in-stock items which can be paid for and picked up the same day.

HMV, along with its sister brand Fopp, said it was also introducing a raft of new in-store measures including hand sanitiser stations which customers will be required to use before handling merchandise.

Items which are returned will be "rested" for 72 hours while the layout of stores has been redesigned to allow shoppers to maintain social distancing while browsing.

Staff have also all undergone covid-security training including in how to maintain social distancing for customers, hygiene, the use of personal protective equipment and till processes aimed at shortening queues.

Till screens and social distancing signage have also been installed across the whole estate.

HMV previously offered a click and collect service which will also be returning.

Owner Doug Putman said: "Our teams have been working on plans to reopen since the day we had to close our doors.

"We've redesigned our store layouts so that customers can make their way through the stores, buy what they want and pay seamlessly while maintaining spaces for those who want to browse while maintaining social distancing.

"We've sought to keep as much of what people love about the HMV and Fopp experience intact and build on the experience while ensuring customers can shop with us comfortably and confidently."

Fifteen HMV and Fopp stores in Scotland and Wales are due to reopen pending further government guidance.
