HMP Bristol prisoner in hospital following attack

A HMP Bristol inmate has been rushed to hospital following a prison attack earlier today (September 17).

Avon and Somerset Police has now launched an investigation following the assault in Horfield this morning.

Unconfirmed reports from a fellow prisoner, who wished not to be named, suggest the man was stabbed.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said: “A HMP Bristol prisoner required hospital treatment after being attacked by an inmate this morning.

"He is in a stable condition and the incident has been referred to the police.”

The victim is now recovering at Southmead Hospital.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “We were called to HMP Bristol at 12.45pm today following a report of an assault.

“A man in his 20s has been taken to Southmead Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
