His Majesty the King has bestowed royal support on the seven-year-old boy attacked by savage stray dogs in Phangnga on Sunday, Phuket governor Pakapong Thawipat said on Wednesday.
The King accepted Yuenyong "Dmax" Chairab as a royally-supported patient on Monday. The boy received treatment at Vachira Phuket Hospital, the governor said.
Hospital director Chalermpol Sukhonthapol said the boy suffered more than 100 bite wounds on his limbs, head, back and ears during the attack under the Sarasin Bridge in tambon Khok Loi of Phangnga province on Sunday.
The boy received initial treatment at Takua Thung Hospital in Phangnga and fell into deep shock on his way to Vachira Phuket Hospital. He was admitted to an intensive care unit and put on a respirator. Staff spent hours cleansing and closing the wounds, also giving him a blood transfusion and medication, Dr Chalermpol said.
Yuenyong showed signs of recovering about 11am on Monday. He could breathe unaided and then was able to eat liquid food by himself at 4pm. On Tuesday the boy was better and able to do more for himself, Dr Chalermpol said.
The wounds were healing well, especially those on his ears. The boy underwent surgery again on Wednesday, after doctors examined his wounds. He was prescribed antibiotics to prevent a blood infection and other complications, the director said.
