HJC Expands It's Helmets, Now Packed With Sport Touring-Focused Tech

When you’re riding hard, the last thing you want to think about is your gear. A good helmet should just do its job in the background—keeping you safe, cool, and focused—without demanding attention. That’s something I’ve always appreciated about HJC

I’ve owned several of their lids over the years, and a few are still in rotation today. They’re the kind of helmets you forget you’re wearing, which is exactly what you want when the pace picks up.

HJC has been making helmets out of South Korea for decades, and its lineup covers everything from budget-friendly entry models to full-on race lids seen in MotoGP. The RPHA line sits at the top, reserved for the brand’s most advanced designs.

The newest addition is the RPHA 72, and it’s aimed at riders who want premium features without hitting the wallet as hard as some of the European options.

The shell uses HJC’s Premium Integrated Matrix 2 (PIM 2) construction, a blend of carbon fiber, aramid, and fiberglass. The result is a helmet that’s lightweight but still built to take a hit. The shape itself was fine-tuned in the wind tunnel, so it stays stable at speed and doesn’t tug on your neck during long rides. Ventilation is handled by the Advanced Channeling Ventilation System (ACS), which moves air from front to back through two intake vents and two exhaust ports.

The visor setup is another highlight. The Pinlock-ready HJ-48 shield blocks 99 percent of UV rays and has an anti-scratch coating, and there’s an internal sun visor that drops down distortion-free with its own anti-fog treatment. It’s the kind of setup that works well whether you’re logging highway miles or carving through mountain roads.

Inside, you’ll find a liner made from quick-drying, antibacterial fabric. The crown and cheek pads are removable and washable, and the helmet even has grooves for glasses. Emergency-release cheek pads are also built in for safety. If you like running comms, the RPHA 72 is ready for HJC’s SMART Bluetooth systems (11B, 21B, and 50B), which snap in without the usual DIY headaches.

The helmet is priced at €459.90 (about $490 USD) and comes in a handful of colors, including Pearl White, Matte Black, Semi Flat Titanium, and more. It doesn’t scream for attention with flashy graphics, but that’s part of the appeal. The RPHA 72 is more about quietly delivering the kind of performance that matters once you’re actually riding.

For me, it’s another reminder of why I’ve stuck with HJC over the years. They keep things straightforward, they get the details right, and they let you focus on the ride.
