Hitmen walk into home and shoot man...police are now investigating whether Salford's 17th shooting in 12 months is linked to others

A man was shot twice in his Eccles home .

The victim was confronted by two men who walked into the house in Furrow Drive, in Winton.

They then blasted him in the lower body before leaving immediately.

The victim, aged 22, remains in hospital. His injuries are serious but not life threatening.

No arrests have been made so far.

An ambulance and rapid response vehicle were dispatched by North West Ambulance Service who took the the injured man to hospital.

The incident was the 17th shooting in the last 12 months in the city.

Detectives are now trying to establish whether the attack is linked to other recent shootings.

They are also trawling CCTV in the surrounding estate and main roads to see how the gunmen arrived.

The attack was at 8.50pm on Monday. Throughout Tuesday, a large cordon was erected sealing off the entire street.

A spokesman for GMP said: "It was reported yesterday (Monday) at 8.47pm as a firearms discharge.

"Two unknown persons entered an address and shot a man with a handgun.

"The man was taken to hospital where he remains.

"His injuries are not life-threatening."

The city has seen a spate on of shooting in the last four weeks.

On January 3rd, shots were fired at a house on Bradden Close in Langworthy.

On December 19th a shot was fired outside The Winston pub in Churchill Way, Pendleton.

It came just two weeks after a gunman opened fire at a taxi firm in Eccles town centre.

In October, police were called to reports of the third shooting on the same street this year.

Officers were called to Quay View and Montford Street, Ordsall, at around 8am on October 18.

Three linked shootings in Wigan in September are thought to be linked to Salford.

Anti gun-crime police have recognised Salford as requiring special attention, in disrupting gangs and securing community engagement.

Of the 113 organised crime groups operating in the region, 49 have been shown to use firearms in their activities and eight are known to have been involved in the supply of firearms.
