A BBC show that takes viewers on a tour of one of the most Instagrammable super salons in the North East has been renewed for a second series.
Angels Of The North gives a blow by blow account of life working in the Longlox salon in Gateshead, focusing on owner Sammyjo Pearson and her mum, 'mamager' Bev.
They will be steering the team of stylists and juniors through a set of new challenges, both on and off the floor of the business that is billed as a 'Tyneside 'pre-party' hair extension super salon.
Series one premiered on BBC iPlayer in December last year as an eight-part boxset and has had nearly 1.4 million requests to date, the BBC says, with a significant number of requests coming from the North East and Cumbria.
The show was an instant hit with viewers and was downloaded more than 200,000 times in the first 48 hours.
Sammyjo said: “My Longlox girls, Bev my mamager, and me - we’re all ready for Series 2. You ain’t seen nothing yet."
Antonia Hurford-Jones and Duncan Gray, Executive Producers Twenty Six 03 Entertainment, say: “The audience loved series one of Angels Of The North and we can’t wait to share series two, as Sammyjo, Bev and the girls take the first part of 2020 full on – in and out of the salon by the Tyne.”
Fiona Campbell, Controller BBC Three, said the show is an example of the way BBC Three is striving to showcase young lives from across the whole of the UK with fun, aspirational and relatable programmes.
She added: "We’re delighted give viewers another tour of Longlox."
