An absolutely brilliant vaccination song was released this week by the Hit Newcastle 106.9 breakfast team with Nick, Jess and Ducko.
Frustrated with last weekend's protests and COVID misinformation, Nick grabbed his guitar and composed a song for the country.
Here's the lyrics:
Hey if you're anti-vax, tell me what's holding you back; I just want Bunnings snags back and you are in my way.
The doctors aren't sprouting crap, they're trying to save all our backs.
"But I don't know what's in the jab"; Then tell me what SPAM contains.
And here's a fact, no-one is tryin' to track you, your phones already do that for you. Your life's not that interesting Nathan.
"If you're sick of lockdowns, home schooling driven you crazy; Roll up your sleeves and get vaccinated.
You can take essential oils, til you need ventilating or stop being a Karen, and get vaccinated.
If you think your freedom's at stake; "Yeah no-one tells me what to take".
Well undo your seatbelt today and see how well that ends.
You say the government's lying, and tryin' to control your mind, but you got your facts from a guy who sells dreamcatchers on Etsy.
Spam Slam
Couldn't have put it better ourselves. We love the line in that song, "then tell me what SPAM contains". Funny how those worried about something sinister in vaccines, don't seem worried about what's in their food, let alone air, water and land pollution.
You gotta get 'em vaccinated
Meanwhile, Port Stephens butcher Steve Barnett reckons the advertisements urging people to get vaccinated could be better.
"Perhaps the band Offspring can rewrite their hit Come Out and Play - You gotta get 'em vaccinated, hey there ain't no time, wear a mask in the vaccination line, hey if you wanna come out and play, gotta get 'em vaccinated."
Steve added: "Maybe I should stick to sausage science."
Nah, we reckon Steve is onto something there. In fact, Offspring had the same thought.
The band reworked their 1994 classic song with the lyrics, "You gotta keep 'em separated" to "You gotta go get vaccinated".
The reworked song was shared on the band's Instagram in March.
"You know, every time we get together we talk about how we can't wait to get out there and play shows again," band members Dexter and Noodles said.
"But let's face it, live shows aren't gonna happen until you go get vaccinated. So we thought we'd have a little fun with one of our old songs. Check it out!"
Zen Swimmer
Emma McKeon's gold medal in the 100-metre freestyle was a triumph of controlled emotion.
Channel 7 showed her in a room before the race with the other swimmers. Emma looked like she was in a trance, totally focused and ready to get in the flow state.
Her Australian teammate Cate Campbell, who took the bronze, looked a tad more tense in that room.
After the race, co-commentator Leisel Jones said it was important that Emma wasn't "in her head".
"When you're in your head, you're dead. It's about dropping into the body and heart."
Very zen, that.
