Hit List host Rochelle Humes horrified as contestant swears to give wrong answer on family show

Host Rochelle Humes and viewers at home were left in shock on Saturday night as a contestant on The Hit List swore to give an incorrect answer, three hours before the watershed.

The popular BBC Saturday teatime show involves pairs of contestants trying to guess the artist and song from an array of different soundbites of tracks, as they bid to make the final with a chance to take home some big money.

The first round saw presenters Rochelle and husband Marvin task each duo with identifying the song and singer of tracks from the 2010s, 2000s, 1990s, 1980s and 1970s.

The third and final couple to play were Nick and Kate and, after hearing Blink 182's hit All The Small Things they were then played a small excerpt of Chemical Brothers' 1997 number 1 Block Rockin' Beats.

But that wasn't the song that sprung to mind for Nick as he answered by guessing: "The Prodigy - Smack My Bi*ch Up," as a bleep sounded over the offending word.

Rochelle's jaw dropped as Nick answered with her shouting: "This is a family show! Good grief!"

Ironically, Nick did then give the right answer but the damage was already done.

One stunned viewer rushed to Twitter to post: "Spent about 10 minutes laughing when a westlife fan gave 'smack my bi*ch up' as an answer on a bbc teatime music quiz," with another reacting: "Can't believe that contestant really said "smack my bi*ch up" on a BBC show aired at 6pm on a Saturday night.

A third tweeted: "it’s a teatime show mate I doubt they've put smack my bi*ch up in there."

The video for Smack My Bi*ch Up was banned by channels, including MTV, when the song was released in November 1997 as the final single from The Prodigy's hit album Fat of the Land.

The video for the song depicted scenes of drunken and drug-fuelled sexual excess and violence.
