Hit Irish sitcom The Young Offenders to open casting for next season

The creators of hugely successful Irish sitcom The Young Offenders have officially announced a call through their website for Irish actors to appear in the next season of the show.

Applicants are being asked to upload a self-tape of themselves reading a scene, although the application does specify that a Cork accent is not a requirement - which could mean the show might feature some non-Cork characters in the future.

The premiere date for the second season has not yet been announced, but it can't be too far away if actors are being sought to appear alongside the show's beloved main characters - cheeky Cork boys, Conor MacSweeney (Alex Murphy) and Jock O'Keeffe (Chris Walley).

The appeal for actors is sure to be welcome news to anyone looking to break into the acting industry. It comes just days after star Chris Walley won a major Olivier award following his appearance in a play in London's West End alongside fellow Irish actor Aidan Turner.

The website invited wannabe actors to apply, saying: "Please fill out the application form below. We will be in touch with further details if we find a character who you could be right for."

It did not say previous acting experience was a requirement, so anyone who fancies their chances at being the next Young Offender can apply.
