Hit-and-run thug laughed at blood-soaked victim after mowing her down

A hit-and-run victim has praised the jail sentence handed out to a bike thug who laughed at her as she lay covered in blood after he mowed her down.

Teenager Megan Grant suffered horrific injuries after lout Ryan McGovern lost control of his off-road motorbike and crashed into her as she walked on a pavement near her Edinburgh home.

Megan, 19, needed staples to a serious head wound and suffered a heavily bruised spleen after being knocked down from behind by McGovern’s red and white Honda 250.

She was also left with injuries to her arms, hands and shoulder and was left lying in the roadway when cowardly McGovern ran off after he abandoned the bike in March last year.

As the bloodied teen was being helped by a neighbour following the collision at the capital’s Hay Drive, she saw McGovern returning to the scene and “smirking” at her as he walked past.

Now Megan has admitted she is “delighted” after learning McGovern, 28, was caged for 10 months for the shocking hit-and-run when he appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.

The thug was also banned from the road for three years by Sheriff Alistair Noble.
