Detectives are hunting for a Mercedes driver who fled the scene of a crash that left a girl with serious injuries.
The teenager was taken to Alder Hey following the hit and run on Saturday afternoon.
Police have launched efforts to find the driver and the vehicle, which was damaged in the incident.
Emergency services were called to Hale Road in Widnes following reports a car had hit a pedestrian just before 1pm.
The victim was found injured at the scene and taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Hale Road was cordoned off while the scene was examined and officers spoke to witnesses, while police scrambled a helicopter to support the search for the driver.
The vehicle involved was described as a dark-coloured, saloon-style Mercedes that is believed to have sustained front end damage in the crash.
Appealing for information, Sergeant Simon Degg, of Cheshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Investigations team, said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and enquiries are very much ongoing.
“Hale Road would have been busy during the time of the collision and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anything else that may help our investigation.
“We also want to hear from anyone who believes they have dashcam footage of the collision, or of the Mercedes car involved in the incident.”
Hale Road was closed in both directions between Liverpool Road and Dundalk Road but reopened on Saturday afternoon.
