"Welcome", writes Peter Preston, "to a particularly evocative trip down memory lane." He is reviewing the National Portrait Gallery exhibition Daily Encounters: Photographs from Fleet Street that features newspaper pictures throughout most of the last century. He laments "the red-top to middle-market emphasis" which "cuts out so much quality newspaper brilliance". But, he concludes: "You never for an instant doubt the power of the killer photograph that, to this day, sells extra thousands on newsstands." (Via The Observer)
