Historic Wellington House in Ayr to be revived as high-end party and wedding venue

An ambitious plan to create a new "go to" social venue in the heart of Ayr has been unveiled.

Wellington House on the Square will reimagine one of the town's most historic buildings as a bespoke base for weddings, parties and functions.

Those behind the six-figure project say their vision is to serve an "untapped market" using the former Gentleman's Club which played host to the US Air Force in World War I.

Overlooking Wellington Square, the two-storey property was originally conceived as a house in the early 19th century.

Sharon Welsh, a qualified clinical scientist from Prestwick, is driving its rebirth as a home for high-end events.

Intimate weddings along with meeting spaces for clients are all high on the list of desired uses.

Sharon, 52, told Ayrshire Live: "The building is fantastic and has so much potential for what we can do with it.

"We wanted to restore it as close to its original form as possible to keep that authenticity.

"So there is the nod to the Gentlemen's Club and we are also set up for a spectacular wedding venue which we think will prove very popular.

"There has also been interest for things like film and magazine shoots and people who've come to visit are all taken aback by the surroundings."

Its hoped the official launch, which takes place this week, will draw in a clientele from across the west of Scotland.

The hospitality offering will include a number of private rooms for hire while children's birthday parties are another market to be explored.

Former MSP Chic Brodie is advising on the business plan (Photo Studio Ayr Ltd)

Former South Scotland MSP Chic Brodie has been advising on the business plan for the venture moving forward.

He said: "The potential of this quite magnificent building is there for all to see.

"And if it is embraced fully by the town, it could be something that could provide a long lasting and important boost to our local tourism trade."
