Historic Victorian home transformed into colourful, quirky space

A charming historic home which has been transformed into a quirky colourful space has gone on the market.

Located on Buckingham Avenue in L17, between Smithdown Road and Ullet Road, the property boasts five bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a decent-sized garden.

Arranged over three floors, the huge Victorian terrace's footprint spans almost 2,700 sq ft.

It's location is also second to none. It's a stone's throw from the city's beautiful Sefton Park, while also being a short distance from both Princes Park and Greenbank Park.

The red brick frontage has been retained, but the bright blue hardwood door gives a hint of the symphony of colour that awaits inside. On entering, eyes are drawn down to the charming tiled floor in the vestibule and the rich, midnight blue carpet on the turning staircase.

There is a staggering three reception rooms on the ground floor. The front lounge benefits from a beautiful, curved bay window with a feature fireplace and abstract patterned walls in neutral tones.

The dining room is where the fun begins; decked in light blue palm trees, the green from the tiled fire surround have been picked out to match the upholstery perfectly. The room is finished with quirky mid-century furniture.

The morning room, which adjoins the somewhat tame glossy white kitchen, is adorned in colourful butterflies and boasts a log burner.

The first floor has four sizable bedrooms and a large family bathroom with a curved top, claw-foot tub and its own fireplace. The monochrome suite also has panelled walls and playful wallpaper.

Elsewhere there is a WC, which hasn't escaped the owner's colourful palette, as well as a modern, walk-in shower room.

The second floor is the master bedroom, a converted loft space with a bare brick feature wall and plenty of skylights.

The house is on the market with Purplebricks for a whopping £625,000. The listing said: "The property has expansive living and entertaining spaces exuding charm and character."

While the price tag is relatively hefty for a terrace, Buckingham Avenue is a sought after location. House sales on the stretch of road since 2020 have been rare, but upwards of £400,000.

Properties in the Sefton Park area overall had an average price of £223,853, a 6% jump on the previous year and 12% higher than the 2020 peak.
