Historic Tour of Catalonia to resume for UK holidaymakers when Covid rules are eased

One of the first-ever package tours for UK travellers has been recreated for visitors to enjoy following the end of travel restrictions.

The Catalunya tourism board will introduce the ‘Grand Tour of Catalonia’ - a circular tourist route that allows visitors to the region to experience the best of its art, history, gastronomy and traditions.

The route takes tourists off the beaten track and to some of its more well-known destinations to learn more about famous citizens including Gaudí and Dalí.

Alternatively, taste pa amb tomàquet (Catalan Tomato Bread) and Michelin-starred meals in famous restaurants, visit rural villages and Barcelona, one of the most vibrant cities in the world.

Activities along the way include the adrenaline rush of a parachute jump, peaceful walks along isolated shorelines and tasting sessions of local Catalan wines.

The new tourism route has been designed to focus on all the highlights of the famous region. They are several alternative routes, each designed to focus on special interests.

It will offer various options for travellers arriving by air, road or railway, which connections possible from the UK to Barcelona.

The Grand Tour was one of the earliest holiday routes drawn up for UK visitors to the area with historic travel agent Thomas Cook amongst the earliest pioneers.
