Historic Tennent's Bar set for refurbishment

One of Glasgow's most historic pubs, Tennent's Bar, is set for refurbishment.

A planning application made on behalf of the Byres Road boozer was submitted to Glasgow City Council this week.

Owners Mitchells & Butlers are seeking permission for an internal refurbishment as well as a new external seating area.

Documents state a desire for: "internal refurbishment to existing bar, new kitchen, new sanitary ware, new fixtures and fittings, change of use to install new external seating and loose barriers to pavement area to front of unit."

A spokesperson for Mitchells & Butlers confirmed to Glasgow Live: “We’ve submitted plans for an extensive refurbishment of the Tennent’s which will give the popular Glasgow pub a whole new look and feel.”

Tennent's Bar has been a fixture in Hillhead since 1888, opened by Hugh Tennent, the grandson of the Hugh Tennent behind Glasgow's famous Wellpark Brewery.

The application is currently under consideration by planners at Glasgow City Council.
