Historic Staffordshire cinema building to be sold at auction

A popular three-screen cinema building is going under the hammer at an auction next month.

The lot - which includes the historic Stafford Cinema building and two retail units - has been given a guide price of £350,000.

The 1930s town centre building - which is close to the new Waterfront Leisure scheme which boasts tenants including Nando's and Frankie and Benny's - has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment programme since reopening in October.

David Margolis, of auctioneers Acuitus, said: "The Stafford Cinema could offer the best of both worlds for landlords and developers.

"It continues to enjoy success as a popular local cinema, but also due to its prominent location, it has the potential for redevelopment and change of use."

Pre-application advice for the Newport Road cinema building has been recently received from Stafford Borough Council for a multi-storey mixed-use conversion comprising ground floor retail and residential above.

The auction is taking place at The Montcalm Hotel in London on February 12.
