Northern Territory police lay historic sex offence charges against former political staffer

A former political staffer has been charged with historic sex offences allegedly committed against a member of his family.

Northern Territory police say the man's alleged victim, a younger family member, came forward to make a complaint in March this year.

They allege the man, who is now in his 30s, committed the offences between 1998 and 2004.

The man was arrested by Sex Crimes Detectives yesterday and has been charged with two counts each of sexual intercourse without consent and acts of gross indecency.

He faced the Darwin Local Court for the first time on Friday and was granted bail.

The matter will return to court in July.
