Historic Nottingham pub earmarked for £224k revamp - including a new outdoor area

One of Nottingham's oldest pubs, dating back to 1799, has been earmarked for an extensive refurbishment which will uncover historic features whilst giving "a fresh new look with a trendy rustic twist."

The Royal Children's £224,000 makeover includes a quirky faux shop front at the bar which will serve fresh homemade pies throughout the day and an outdoor seating area.

As the search for a new licensee continues, plans revealed by chartered surveyors James A Baker show how the pub, with a striking Tudor design, in Castle Gate, will change.

The Royal Children is currently a drinkers' pub with a focus on sports.

A spokesperson for owners Star Pubs & Bars said: "The Royal Children has been earmarked for a £224,000 sympathetic refurbishment of this listed building once licensees have been found to take it forward. We have had some interest in the site."

According to the plans "once transformed, the pub will attract a younger demographic, as well as locals and visitors looking to enjoy a great craft and cask ale offer, as well as the simple delicious food."

The bar servery will be refurbished to become a focal point with a distressed, rustic design.

The pub, which used to have a number of small rooms before being made open plan, will be redecorated with industrial and exposed finishes.

Most of the fixed seating will be removed. Instead a long banquette will be added, with a mixture of poseur tables and stools, barrel chairs, distressed leather armchairs and two curved feature booths. A vintage-style decorative feature wall relating to the area's local history will be added.

Anyone else interested in taking on the pub should visit starpubs.co.uk or telephone 08085 949596.
