Historic Moore Street market traders could receive one-off payment to close stalls

Moore Street market traders could receive a one-off payment to close their stalls, according to a new report.

The Government-appointed Moore Street Advisory Group presented their report to the Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien on Thursday.

And the group, which includes traders, said that market stalls couldn't continue operating once the redevelopment of the street gets underway.

They added that a compensation package should be put in place "as soon as possible".

The report also highlighted the need for urgent restoration on the Street, and added that a committee for the proposed 1916 visitor centre at the National Monument buildings must be established - restoration is expected to cost over €16m.

The report recommended that locals in the community and relatives of 1916 heroes be represented on the committee.
