'Historic moment' Chase player breaks record after winning £40k despite scoring £0 in first round

Viewers tuning in to Thursday night's episode of The Chase were left stunned as one player bagged £40k after earning nothing in first round.

Host Bradley Walsh - who struggled to keep his cool - said the moment was 'history in the making' as contestant Janty broke a record after being refused a lower offer for the first time ever.

During Thursday's instalment, Janty was hoping to win big, after two of her fellow team mates were knocked out of the competition by Jenny.

However, it went from bad to worse for Janty after scoring £0 in the cash-builder round, leaving Jenny unable to give Janty a low offer when it came to facing each other.

But Janty decided to take a gamble and chose to go for the high offer of £40k - saying she was "only here once".

It was a close call between the two of them as they both started off answering the questions correctly.

Things quickly took a turn however when Jenny made a mistake and answered a question incorrectly, just when Janty was only three questions away from home.

Luckily Jenny's mistake worked in Janty's favour as she managed to answer all the remaining questions correctly, leaving her with an impressive £40k and a place in the final.

"I cannot believe that!" Bradley exclaimed. "That was unbelievable!"

Complimenting Janty on her achievement, Jenny said: "You put on a great performance and I'll look forward to seeing you in the final."

Fans watching from home struggled to contain their excitement at Janty's big win, with many taking to Twitter to commend her bravery.

One viewer tweeted: "Janty is my new inspiration for earning money, get £0 at the cash builder but win £40k at the table, what a legend lmao."

A second said: "Unbelievable scenes by Janty."

"Yes Janty!!! Where did that come from!!" A third wrote.

A fourth commented: "That’s one of the greatest things I’ve seen in #TheChase. Fantastic Janty!!!!"

Sadly, it wasn't meant to be as Jenny beat Janty in the final in just 24 seconds.

Bradley told Janty it doesn't matter what happened in the final, "it was thrilling what happened back there."
