Historic Great Britain Tour XII rolls into Ayrshire as railway fans get their thrills

Railway enthusiasts have lined the side of Ayrshire's train tracks for a glimpse of history.

The Great Britain XII tour rolled into town as part of a showcase of steam excellence.

On Thursday the engines and their passengers left Edinburgh en route for Stranraer, via Kilwinning, Irvine, Troon, Prestwick and Ayr.

Thursday night saw the trains stop in Ayr before leaving on Friday morning for Scarborough, via Annbank, Mauchline and New Cumnock.

The B1 1264 and Black 5 No.44871 locomotives were in charge of the train as it left Ayr this morning and passed through New Cumnock on its way south.

The Merchant Navy No.35018 British India Line will take over the train at Carlisle as the train continues its journey.

The cost for those on board was £2500 for a normal ticket and £3500 for first class.
