Historic Cornish inn reopens two years after devastating fire

A Cornish pub has finally reopened two years after a devastating fire ripped through the building.

The historic Finnygook Inn, in Crafthole on the Rame Peninsula, was severely damaged in a  blaze  in December 2017.

After what started as a chimney fire, flames spread through the upper part of the building chimney, while firefighters’ efforts to douse them left the bar sodden.

Luckily, landlords Erika and Neil Ling, and their springer spaniel Tribute, escaped unhurt along with a handful of staff and regulars.

Now their long wait to get back behind the bar is over, with the pub, named after a nearby lane, now up and running.

The fire at the Finnygook Inn

Erika said: "We are so excited and happy to be back in the Finny. We've missed the pub, the village and all our wonderful customers greatly. The past two years can now be forgotten – it’s now all about bringing the village and the pub back to life.

"The most amazing thing is, while parts of the pub are obviously newly built, it absolutely still feels like the old Finny. We've still got a roaring fire, low beams, cosy bar and the restaurant with the breathtaking views.

"Add to that the old Finny team – it feels like stepping back to December 2017. I can't wait to see what the next years bring."

The couple ran the nearby Carew Arms in the village of Antony for over a year while the rebuild was completed.
