Historic Bristol pub for sale for first time in 18 years

A popular Bristol pub is on the market for the first time in almost two decades.

The Portwall Tavern in Redcliffe has been run by Andy Shaw for the past 18 years but he has decided to move on and the pub is for sale.

Dating back to 1847, the bright blue-painted pub is situated at the edge of where Bristol’s Old Portwall once stood, opposite St. Mary Redcliffe church.

According to property agents Fleurets, the property comprises a mid-terrace public house arranged over basement, ground, first and second floors.

A single storey brick extension has been added to the rear, with an outside drinking area located above the extension at first floor level.

Trading accommodation is laid out at ground floor, with a manager’s office and flat on the first and second floors.

Two parking spaces are included to the rear and there is a further external drinking area to the front of the property on Portwall Lane.

One of the selling points of The Portwall Tavern is the fact it is licensed until midnight, seven days a week.

The property is located in Redcliffe, close to Bristol Temple Meads railway station, Finzels Reach and the city centre.

Landlord Andy Shaw says he is only selling it because he wants to do something different after 18 years.

Interest in the leasehold property is expected to be high and the asking price is £125,000.

The property is available by way of assignment of the existing free-of-tie lease, which expires in October 2036.

According to Fleurets, the passing rent is £38,519 per annum and is reviewed in every fifth year of the term, with the next review due in October 2026.
