Historic 300-year-old Fintry home with notable past up for sale for £450,000

A centuries old Fintry home with some prolific former residents is looking for new owners.

Country house Croftinstilly boasts mature gardens over 1.28 acres and a strong sense of local history.

Nestled in the valley of the Endrick and sheltered by the Campsie and the Fintry Hills, the traditional building is believed to date back some 300 years to the time when Highland cattle drovers passed through on their way to Lowland markets.

A much-loved family home, Croftinstilly’s previous occupants have included Sir Daniel McNee, the noted portrait painter of Scottish worthies who became president of the Royal Scottish Academy, as well as Stirling-born politician Julian Smith who became Northern Ireland Secretary.

The house, with its white-painted render and slate roof, appears to have been formed from two separate buildings and could be reconfigured internally again to create two dwellings, however, the current layout provides a number of reception rooms.

Jennifer Campbell of Baird Lumsden at DM Hall, which is marketing the property at offers over £450,000, said: “There is a magnificent wood panelled reception room at one end of the property with a wonderful outlook over the gardens. The principal bedroom is vast and has the added benefit of a modern en-suite bathroom. The gardens are simply stunning.

“Fintry has a strong community spirit, with an extremely popular and well-equipped sports and recreation club, a village hall and an amateur dramatic society. This is a remarkable opportunity to acquire an individual lifestyle property with the potential for development subject to the necessary permissions and taking into account potential planning uplift considerations.”
