Historic 19th century West Lothian school is converted into luxury family home

An historic West Lothian school has hit the market after being converted into an "exclusive" family home.

A section of the 19th century school building on Winchburgh Main Street has been transformed into a modern, five-bedroom property.

And it's now up for sale at offers over £498,000.

The C-listed building is likely to have been built around 1885 before opening to pupils as the Beatlie School in the early 1900s, when the population of the town significantly increased.

However, according to the Buildings at Risk register, the school later became the Winchburgh Day Centre, before closing at the start of the 21st century. It lay empty for a number of years before plans were put forward to transform the building into houses, and some major renovation works were seen to be underway last year.

Now one property which forms part of the old school is ready to be occupied.

Agents Stuart and Stuart WS say the house is part of a "stunning conversion of a late-nineteenth century (C-listed) public school in Winchburgh" and offers "the ultimate contemporary lifestyle, with five double bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, two reception rooms, a large garden and private allocated parking and garage".

They add: "Inside, a vestibule (with storage) welcomes you in, before leading into the reception hall, which immediately sets the very high standards of accommodation. Naturally-lit by skylights and with additional storage, the neutral décor and solid oak flooring flow from here through glazed double doors into the living/dining room.

"This stunning dual-aspect reception area, framed by a feature window, offers a magnificent floorplan for contemporary lifestyles, as well as a spectacular mezzanine level that provides an additional reception space for creative use, whether as a family room or for formal dining.

"Sharing an open-plan with the living room, yet cleverly zoned to retain its own identity, the kitchen is simply exquisite, fitted with mix-and-match cabinets and chunky wooden worktops. It has a Shaker-inspired design and on-trend metro splashback tiles, capturing an ultra-contemporary look with its refined colour palette and integrated AEG appliances (new eye-level double oven, five-burner gas hob, dishwasher, and fridge)."

Three double bedrooms can be found to the rear of the property, one of which has a "deluxe" en-suite shower room.
