FORT WORTH, Texas _ A 19-year-old was in custody Wednesday on a murder charge after police say he fatally stabbed his father.
The name of the victim had not been released by authorities, but a relative identified him as Sandy Hammett.
Jail records identified the suspect as Samuel Lamar Hammett
Police responded to a cutting call about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2600 block of Poplar Spring Road.
When they arrived, officers discovered that a man had been stabbed by his son in the family's home.
Police did not release any details on a possible motive.
But Samuel Hammett's grandmother told the Star-Telegram that her adult son, Samuel's father, attempted to get Samuel out of bed Tuesday afternoon.
"My son said, 'Why you sleeping all day?'" Alma Hammett said Wednesday. "My grandson got up and went nose to nose with my son. My son pushed my grandson down back on the bed."
Samuel Hammett is accused of grabbing a knife and then stabbing his father.
The elder man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Hammett was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and was still in the Fort Worth Jail on Wednesday.
