Adam Webster's Bristol City teammates react to his potential sale to Brighton & Hove Albion

Adam Webster's memorable days as a Robin look to be coming to an end with Brighton & Hove Albion submitting a bid in excess of £20m which would be a club record sale for Bristol City.

Lee Johnson that the club may have to sell their reigning Player of the Year due to the size of the offer from Brighton and Webster's own desire to play in the Premier League.

For Tomas Kalas that deal would rob the Czech Republic international of his defensive side-kick throughout the 2018/19 campaign as the duo formed one of the best partnerships outside the Premier League.

But while Kalas, who completed a £8m switch from Chelsea to Ashton Gate this summer to further his career following seasons of loan moves around the country, finds it regrettable, he appreciates the situation Webster is in.

"It would be a massive loss but at the end of the day it's his career and he needs to, firstly, look after himself," Kalas said.

"Obviously I would love to play alongside him but that doesn't mean I can only play with him.

"I believe I can make a partnership with anyone but if I could prefer anyone at the moment that would be Adam, purely based on last season and how well it was going.

"But it's his chance to get a big shot.

"If he's going to get it, I don't know, that's not my business to talk about but, obviously, to answer the question, I'd love him to stay but understand the situation he's in and it's not easy to get your head around it."

Club captain Bailey Wright has been with the Robins since January 2017 and has witnessed star talent like Webster depart in the past with Bobby Reid, Aden Flint and Joe Bryan's sales 12 months ago and Luke Freeman and Lee Tomlin before that.

Like Kalas, Wright would prefer to be lining up alongside Webster in the City defence for the new season but accepts that such was the quality of his campaign last term, interest in the centre-back is inevitable.

"Listen, Webby was and is an incredible player and there's going to be interest for him," the Australian international said. "We'd be disappointed if there wasn't because of how highly we all rate him.

"He was our player of the season last year, fans player of the season, for a reason and with that comes interest. What happens, if there has been interest, it's above me.

"Of course, we'd love to be able to keep him here as we would all our best players, you don't want to see any teammates leave but this is football, people get linked with things.

"Whatever happens, happens and it's out of our control."
