Hiroshima, Nagasaki to educate Games' visitors on N-bombs

Hiroshima and Nagasaki will hold an exhibition in Tokyo during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games on the devastation caused by the atomic bombs detonated over the cities.

According to both city governments, the exhibition will educate foreign visitors on the damage caused by the bombs and the cities' campaigns for peace. The timing of the Games' also carries symbolic relevance as they will take place over a period that includes Aug. 6 and 9, the days on which the bombs were dropped.

The exhibition, which will be held near a Games' venue, will showcase materials damaged by the bombs, photos of the bomb sites and drawings by survivors, among other displays. The city governments also plan to hold an event where survivors discuss their experiences and call for the abolition of nuclear weapons. Selection of a venue and other preparations will begin in fiscal 2019.
