The Hirosaki Autumn Festival in Aomori Prefecture will kick off Friday, featuring an illumination organized by the Hirosaki municipal government in the hopes of bringing light to the region's coronavirus-hit economy.
A test run of the illumination and projection mapping was conducted at the venue of Hirosaki Park at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Cherry blossom trees stretching from the inner citadel of Hirosaki Castle in the park to its northern citadel were illuminated in deepening autumn colors ranging from green to red.
An image was projected of Tsugaru nishiki goldfish swimming around, as the fish boasts a long history in the Tsugaru region in the prefecture.
Although the Hirosaki Autumn Festival is scheduled to run through Tuesday, the illumination entitled "Hikari no Sakura Koyo" (Autumnal color change of shining sakura) is set to run through Nov. 8.
