ATLANTA — White Sox outfielder Jon Jay landed on the 10-day injured list with a right hip strain Friday, and and outfielder Ryan Cordell was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte to take the veteran’s place on the 25-man roster.
Jay, 34, was sidelined with a hip injury during spring training and did not play for the Sox until June 24. He is batting .267 over 47 games this season, his first with the Sox after signing a one-year, $4 million deal as a free agent on January 9, 2019.
Cordell, 27, is batting .227 with six homers, 20 RBI and 18 runs scored over 81 games with the Sox this season. He also has appeared in 14 games with Charlotte, hitting .275 with one home run.
Jay did not appear in the Sox’ last two games Wednesday and Thursday against the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Sox open a three-game interleague series against the Braves Friday night in Atlanta.
