Hip-hop icons Sugarhill Gang are coming to Edinburgh to celebrate Rapper's Delight anniversary

It's one of those songs pretty much everyone on planet Earth will have heard at one point or another.

And now the legendary Rapper's Delight will be celebrated in Edinburgh ahead of it turning 40-years-old.

Hip-hop heroes Sugarhill Gang will be at La Belle Angele on 20 July as one of only two Scottish dates to celebrate the iconic record.

The track, which was released on Sugarhill Records in 1979, was produced by Sylvia Robinson and features the songwriting talent of Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards.

It was even the first rap track to top the Billboard Hot 100 and it has since gone twice platinum – cementing it's place firmly in music history.

Sugarhill Gang have formed a supergroup by joining forces with fellow artists Grandmaster Melle Mel and Scorpio of The Furious 5, to celebrate the record in its 40th year with a UK tour.

Terminal V is returning to the Royal Highland Centre with a world class line-up on Easter weekend

Rapper Hen Dogg from the Sugarhill Gang said: "We are very excited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Rapper's Delight. An iconic and global success, it stands as a true testament of the power of hip-hop music.

"To see the crowds of people, generation after generation, sing this song and to be able to perform it all over the world is a blessing."

Scorpio of The Furious 5 added: "This is history in the making. We've seen the evolution of hip-hop and rap go from a place where there was a lot of naysayers to it being a full-blown respect genre taking over pop culture."

He said: "To be successful doing what we love, and now joining together to continue to make history is a blessing."

They will also be releasing a special trainer in association with Ewing Athletics to mark the big anniversary.
