Himachal Pradesh woman who lost her son to drugs catches peddler

SHIMLA/BADDI: In a courageous move, a mother, who had lost one son to drug addiction, took action against a drug peddler repeatedly targeting her second son in the Baddi area of Madhya Pradesh.

Santosh, after intercepting calls from a "chitta" (adulterated heroin) smuggler to her son, lured the peddler to Vardhman Birla Marg in Barotiwala on Tuesday, where she and others apprehended him.

The peddler, identified as Madan Mohan, was subsequently arrested, and a quantity of "chitta" was seized.

Santosh's proactive response sends a powerful message against the drug menace, and local law enforcement encourages public cooperation while emphasizing the importance of not taking the law into one's own hands.

Baddi's Superintendent of Police, Mohit Chawla, highlights the role of technology, community involvement, and CCTV cameras in combating drug-related crimes in the region. He notes an increase in NDPS Act cases this year, with successful arrests of drug suppliers.

The incident underscores the growing challenge of 'chitta' consumption in the state, leading to an increase in seizures. Police report that a significant portion of drug peddlers in the state has turned to 'chitta' smuggling due to higher profit margins.
